Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) has announced an exciting new partnership with Western Sydney Wanderers FC, set to kick off in 2025.
This collaboration will provide students across the Diocese with unique opportunities to develop their football skills, promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love for the game in Western Sydney.
To mark the beginning of this partnership, 100 students from Sacred Heart Primary School Mount Druitt, Holy Family Primary School Emerton, Good Shepherd Plumpton, and St. Aidan’s Primary School Rooty Hill gathered at Wanderers Park in Blacktown for a thrilling match against Wanderers players.
Making a special appearance was Wanderers captain and Socceroos goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas, who made his official return from injury during the event. Thomas, a former student of St Pauls Catholic College in Greystanes, joined his teammates in taking on the students.
In addition to the match, students took part in training sessions led by Wanderers coaches, providing them with a taste of the coaching they can expect as part of this partnership. The event was also supported by talented secondary students, including Thomas Cutuk from Marian Catholic College Kenthurst and Allegra Rademeyer from St John Paul II Catholic College Schofields & Nirimba, both of whom are part of the Wanderers system. Sebastian Kukucka from St Pauls, who plays for Sydney United, and Andrea Plaatjes from St Agnes CHS Rooty Hill, representing Spirit FC, also played a key role in the event.
In addition to school-based training sessions, there will also be opportunities for schools to engage with the Western Sydney Wanderers at school game days, gala day appearances, and through enhanced representative sport throughout 2025.
As CSPD and Western Sydney Wanderers FC embark on this new journey together, students and schools can look forward to many exciting opportunities in 2025.

RVR+ Soccer β½π€ Our Senior STEM Club kicked off the RVR+ Soccer Series last week, playing fast-paced 1v1v1 matches using their programmed RVR+ robots. Each game ran for two minutes and the room was full of energy as students tried new strategies, reacted quickly to unexpected moves and learned how their robots behaved under pressure. The teams are already planning adjustments to improve control and movement for next weekβs games. See their excitement and creativity below!

WSI x WSU STEM Co-Design Workshop π¬π Good Shepherd was represented at the WSI x WSU STEM Co-Design Workshop. The day included a tour of the new Western Sydney International Airport, hands-on activities with robotics and discussions with industry and university specialists. Teachers and experts then worked together to begin designing new STEM learning resources that will be piloted in 2026. It was an inspiring experience that will bring exciting opportunities to our students!

SCHOOL CLOSURE Unfortunately, Good Shepherd Primary is currently experiencing a power outage that is unlikely to be restored until this afternoon. For this reason and with safety our priority, a decision has been taken to close the school for today. The outage is currently impacting some water services at the school as well as air conditioning and access to technology. We apologise for the inconvenience. We understand that the service will be restored before students return to school tomorrow. We will keep you updated if there are any changes to this advice. π°π NASA Space Crash Challenge π‘π©βπ Our senior STEM Club students recently tackled the NASA Space Crash Challenge. They were given a Moon landing scenario and had to work together to decide which survival items were truly important. They compared their individual rankings with their team decisions and discovered how listening, questioning and explaining their thinking can change an outcome. Comparing their results with NASAβs expert list led to plenty of surprises!

π§ͺ Five Chairs Challenge π Our Good Shepherd STEM Club has been exploring real design thinking through the Five Chairs Challenge. Each group designed a chair for a Simpsons character, thinking about what their chosen user would actually need. Students sketched ideas, tested different materials and created quick prototypes that encouraged creativity and problem-solving. The goal was not a perfect product but a chance to learn how designers explore, test and refine ideas. The photos show how imaginative their thinking became.
