Sport

At Good Shepherd we offer our students the opportunity to participate in many different sports and events.

Sport at our school is about participation, teamwork, healthy lifestyle choices, skill development and, above all, fun.

All children are encouraged to become involved at a level with which they feel comfortable, and to extend this involvement to realise the potential harboured within each individual. Those children who exhibit particular talents in sport have access to representative sports at a number of levels, from school through to national.

We take part in all zone carnivals for Swimming, Cross-Country and Athletics. For these events, the children have the opportunity to represent at Zone, Diocesan and State levels.

Good Shepherd Sport Swimming

Swimming Carnival

This event is held in Term 4. All children from Year 3 to Year 6 are asked to participate in at least one event, with novelty events to cater for beginning swimmers.

Children may then nominate to participate in other events. Infant classes remain at school on the day of the swimming carnival.

Good Shepherd Sport Cross Country

Cross Country

This event is held at the end of Term 1 or early Term 2, in conjunction with a fun run for those children not seeking to run the distance of the cross country.

The students undergo training in the weeks leading up to the event during their sports lessons.

The cross country and fun run are held on a school day and all students in Years 3 to 6 are expected to participate in either event. We hold this event at Hanna Reserve, Oakhurst. Infant classes remain at school on the day of cross country and participate in a fun run on the school oval.

Good Shepherd Sport Athletics

School Athletics Carnival

This event is held in Term 2.  All children from Year 3 to Year 6 are encouraged to participate in the 100m races. Students may then nominate to participate in longer distance races, field events (such as long jump, high jump and shot put) or novelty events.

In each of these areas, students have the opportunity to compete against other schools at a Zone and/or Diocesan level.
