Good Shepherd Primary provides a supportive learning environment for your child

Good Shepherd Primary School, Plumpton is celebrating outstanding academic growth after being recognised among the top performing primary schools in New South Wales for improvements in literacy and numeracy.

In a comparison of Year 3 and Year 5 results (2023–2025), Good Shepherd recorded an impressive average NAPLAN improvement of 95 points and was recognised by The Sydney Morning Herald as one of the top 160 schools achieving the biggest gains in literacy and numeracy across NSW.

The result places Good Shepherd among nine Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) primary schools recognised in the list and reflects a strong and sustained commitment to educational excellence across the system.

Executive General Manager – Learning Outcomes, Pat Ellis, praised the accomplishment and the dedication of staff and students.

“We’re so proud of these schools and their excellent NAPLAN results that show significant growth in student outcomes,” Mr Ellis said.

In 2025, CSPD introduced the Effective Learning and Teaching Model as part of its overall Uplift approach to build on strong classroom practice and strengthen explicit teaching strategies through evidence-based research about how students learn best.

With a focus on enriching the lives of students through education grounded in excellence, inclusion and Catholic tradition, CSPD is committed to uplifting teaching and learning outcomes for all 80 schools across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

QUACK QUACK! Kindergarten are loving having the Hatch N Grow program in their classrooms this fortnight! This week, Kindy have watched as their little ducklings have hatched from their eggs and begun to grow. This program is helping our Kindergarten students to learn about life cycles, as a part of their Science and Technology program called Backyard to Bush. We can't wait to see how much they grow next week (and for more chances to hold the ducklings!)

Here is a little throwback to this time last week, when our Year 6 students and teachers visited Canberra! Overwhelmingly, camp was such a successful experience for our students. They had a great time bonding with one another and learnt so much. Students were able to bring their learning back to school, informing the work they are doing in Human Society and its Environment. We are extremely grateful to our teachers who gave up their time to support Year 6 on their camp. Thank you teachers!
