Good Shepherd Primary School, Plumpton is celebrating outstanding academic growth after being recognised among the top performing primary schools in New South Wales for improvements in literacy and numeracy.
In a comparison of Year 3 and Year 5 results (2023–2025), Good Shepherd recorded an impressive average NAPLAN improvement of 95 points and was recognised by The Sydney Morning Herald as one of the top 160 schools achieving the biggest gains in literacy and numeracy across NSW.
The result places Good Shepherd among nine Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) primary schools recognised in the list and reflects a strong and sustained commitment to educational excellence across the system.
Executive General Manager – Learning Outcomes, Pat Ellis, praised the accomplishment and the dedication of staff and students.
“We’re so proud of these schools and their excellent NAPLAN results that show significant growth in student outcomes,” Mr Ellis said.
In 2025, CSPD introduced the Effective Learning and Teaching Model as part of its overall Uplift approach to build on strong classroom practice and strengthen explicit teaching strategies through evidence-based research about how students learn best.
With a focus on enriching the lives of students through education grounded in excellence, inclusion and Catholic tradition, CSPD is committed to uplifting teaching and learning outcomes for all 80 schools across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

What an amazing day we had for our school feast day, Good Shepherd Day! We had a belated celebration on Friday 15th May, where we were joined by our parent community for a picnic at recess, a liturgy in the church and a celebration of learning in the classrooms. Students began the day with a scavenger hunt around the school, and some time building connections to their school and the story of the Good Shepherd. In the afternoon, we celebrated across the school with soccer games, a basketball competition, a disco, drawing with chalk, bubble wands and the making of prayer cards. Our students said it was "one of the best days at school ever!" Thank you to everyone who attended!19 May 2026
